Keaton Kiewra, born on January 1, 1987, in Lincoln, Nebraska, is an American International Master (IM) and a dedicated chess instructor. He achieved the IM title with two Grandmaster norms and was the Nebraska State Chess Champion for nine consecutive years during his youth. In 2005, Kiewra moved to Dallas to attend the University of Texas at Dallas on a chess scholarship, graduating in 2009. Since then, he has been a full-time chess instructor, coaching students of all levels and helping several achieve state and national titles. He offers online lessons through his website, Chess Lessons with Keaton, and has a FIDE rating of 2279.

Nebraska native Rodney Malpert is the principal financial backer of the Nebraska Hall of Fame Chess Celebration on June 1st and 2nd. The prize fund for the tournament is $13,650.
