Julio Becerra Rivero, born on October 15, 1973, in Havana, Cuba, is a distinguished chess Grandmaster who transitioned to the United States in 1999. He began his chess journey at 13 and rapidly ascended the ranks, securing the Cuban Chess Championship titles in 1996 and 1998. After relocating to the U.S., Becerra became a prominent figure in American chess, earning the title of Grandmaster in 1997. He has been a multiple-time Florida State Champion, with his most recent victory in 2021. Beyond his competitive achievements, Becerra is a dedicated chess educator, coaching numerous students and contributing to the growth of chess in the U.S
