Charles Hertan

Charles Hertan is an American FIDE Master born in 1960. He holds a classical rating of 2395. He won both the Eastern US Masters C and the New England Chess Championship.

He has written seven chess books. One of them, Forcing Chess Moves, won the 2008 Chess Cafe Book of the Year award. Educators and journalists gave similar praise to his two-part tactics manual for children, Power Chess for Kids.

In 2024, Hertan published The Real Paul Morphy: His Life and Chess Games. This work is a biography and analysis of the games played by the great American champion.
