Gisela Gresser (1906-2000) was an American chess player who dominated women’s chess in the United States, winning the U.S. Women’s Chess Championship nine times from 1944 to 1969. Gresser learned chess at the age of 24 by borrowing a book, and the game remained a fascination throughout his life.
