Chess in Georgia and Washington (May 2026)

by

In May of 2026 I will be in Georgia and in Washington, for book signings, talks, and simultaneous chess exhibitions (simuls). I will also be competing for the title of Southeastern Regional Women’s Champion. It would be satisfying to win that title, 37 years after winning the U.S. Women’s Championship.

Georgia

The inaugural Southeastern Regional Women’s and Girls’ Chess Championship is on May 9, 2026, in Tucker, Georgia, a city near Atlanta. The venue is the Atlanta Chinese Christian Church. A grant from US Chess underwrites the tournament’s prize fund.

The competition for first place will be fierce, as IM Martha Fierro has preregistered. Her most recent tournament was the Charlotte Chess Center’s Spring 2025 Norm Invitational. One of her losses, against WGM Dina Belenkaya, was broadcast on YouTube. Here is one of Fierro’s wins from that same event.

On May 7, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., I will be giving a talk, book signing, and simul at the Norcross Branch of the Gwinnett County Public Library. The event is free and registration is available at this link. Copies of my latest book will be available for purchase.

Washington

On May 12, I will give a talk, book signing, and simul at the Grand Knights Chess Academy in Bellevue, Washington. My chess appearance starts at 6 p.m.

The flyer and registration are posted on the Northwest Chess website.
