Erno Gereben

Erno Gereben was a Hungarian-Swiss chess master born in Sopron. He played competitively for fifty years, starting in the mid-1920s and continuing until the late 1970s. Until 1935, he used the German name Ernest Grünfeld.

His tournament record includes a win in Šumperk in 1928 and a tie for first place in Körmend in 1926. He also placed fifth in Budapest in 1930 and tied for second or third with Albert Becker in 1935. Gereben competed in several other events in Budapest and Sopron throughout the early 1930s.

He holds the title of FIDE Master. His highest rating is 1864 in rapid chess.
