His success continued at the European Team Chess Championship, where he won medals for both his team and himself. He currently holds a classical rating of 2137.


Wlodzimierz Schmidt

Wlodzimierz Schmidt was a Polish chess grandmaster born in 1949. He won the Polish Championship seven times between 1971 and 1994. He played for Poland in 14 Chess Olympiads over three decades.

Schmidt earned the IM title in 1968 and became a GM in 1976. He won or tied for first place at several tournaments, including Malmo 1977 and Bagneux 1980. His highest rating was 1766.

He became a FIDE Senior Trainer in 2004. Schmidt died on April 1, 2023, at the age of 79.
