I get disconnected unexpectedly, why?

SparkChess Multiplayer Service is powered by leaders in cloud services. We have load-balanced live servers located in New York City with automatic  failover in a different provider, in a different datacenter. We take daily offline backups. We monitor the service 24/7 at 1 minute intervals. We have an uptime of over 99.999% (less than 5 minutes of downtime per year).

If you get disconnected, the most likely cause is an instability of your internet connection – wifi issues, mobile data connectivity and so on. The multiplayer service requires constant connection and if the connection is lost for 30 seconds, you get disconnected.

SparkChess attempts to automatically reconnect in case of a lost connection and resume the game, but reconnecting doesn’t work for Guest players. Since Guests don’t have accounts, the multiplayer service can’t tell a reconnecting player from a new connection. Guest play was designed so new players can get a quick look at how multiplayer works, nothing more.
