Alexander Mikhailovich Chernin is a Hungarian chess grandmaster and trainer born in 1960. He reached a classical rating of 2614. Writing as a theorist, he produced analytical articles for New In Chess and other publications. He is a noted expert on the Pirc Defence. In 2001, he co-authored a repertoire book with Lev Alburt called Pirc Alert!. Competition at the top level included the inaugural World Team Championship, where he won both team and individual gold medals during his prime.
