Jan Timman is a Dutch grandmaster who was one of the top players in the world from the late 1970s to the early 1990s. He won the Dutch Chess Championship nine times. Because he was seen as the best non-Soviet player during his peak, people called him The Best of the West.
He was a Candidate for the World Chess Championship on several occasions. In 1993, he played Anatoly Karpov for the FIDE World Championship title but lost the match. His highest rated speed chess score is a 2504 in Rapid.
Marcel Sisniega Campbell was a Mexican Grandmaster and film director born in Chicago. He grew up in Cuernavaca, Mexico. He earned the International Master title in 1978 and became a Grandmaster in 1992.
Sisniega won the Mexican championship nine times. He also won the Carlos Torre Repetto Memorial three times. During his career, he beat players like Viswanathan Anand, Artur Yusupov, Miguel Illescas and Jesus Nogueiras. He stopped playing for the most part after the early 1990s.
